28 years old Sampriti Bhattacharyya, originally from Kolkata has been featured in recent Forbes list of 30 most successful entrepreneurs under 30.

Sampriti, a PHD scholar from MIT, has designed an underwater drone which can map ocean base where GPS does not work. She has also founded Hydroswarm – a startup which mainly deals with such drones for collecting ocean data and exploration.

She did her schooling from South Point, Kolkata, pursued engineering from St. Thomas’ College of Engineering & Technology and then went to Ohio State University for studying aerospace engineering. She later come to Massachusetts Institute of Technology to study Robotics. She has a degree in business program from Harvard Business School.

It was quite hard  and costly to study the ocean’s deep earlier- which influence the young scientist to design the underwater drone for studying mainly oil spills, search operations, environmental monitoring,  etc.

Sampriti Bhattacharyya has designed these ball-like drones which can withstand immense pressure of water and move around a area of 100 square meters in one hour.

In an interview with Times Of India, Sampriti says,

Underwater navigation has been a reality for many years but for advanced searches you need maps that are as refined as, say, the Google map. This is where my drone comes in. It can map the ocean, sitting on its bed, and you can zero in on the minutest objects, living or non-living. You can even map underwater pollution with the help of this drone…
