Recalling childhood without the thought of cartoons is impossible. Back in our days, cartoons were the only mode of entertainment for kids. We all had our favourite shows that we didn’t like missing. Watching cartoons early morning before leaving for school was a real gig back then. Inspite of being forbidden several times from watching them, we never gave up. Some have even continued watching them as adults.
The fact that cartoon characters don’t age, make them more enticing. But what if they also did age with us? What would they look like?
10 Popular Cartoon Characters’ Grown up Version
Dora the explorer
Dora is a popular character mostly known for her doltish behaviour. But we were all kids back then and never really judged the fact that she could have just turned back and seen what she was looking for, but now that days have passed we wonder what she might look like as a grown-up or teenager and most importantly if she has grown smart enough to not ask silly questions anymore.
Scooby-Doo
This series had first started in the late ‘60s and has delighted every following generation with its attractive characters and children friendly storyline. This cartoon series was based on a group of teenagers along with a smart dog, solving supernatural mysteries. But now that its fans have grown up, they have started imagining their favourite characters as grownups too.
Dexter’s laboratory
Dexter was a young boy who loved science- so much that he created his own laboratory without the knowledge of his parents. However, his sister Dee Dee was interested in discovering his weird experiments and always found a way to interrupt. But if Dexter was a grown boy, he would surely be a scientist and discover weird solutions to today’s weird problems and hopefully, his sister would encourage him now.
Power Puff girls
The Power Puff girls were a group of three kindergarten-aged children- Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup- with superpowers given by a scientist named Professor Utonium. They fought against criminals and prevented bad deeds in the town, clearly representing women’s empowerment. We hope Powerpuff girls were in real and grown up, enough to tackle the harassment faced by women every day.
Pokémon
Ash Ketchum from Pokémon has undoubtedly been the most recognizable anime fictional character since it was launched. Pokémon is an abbreviation for “Pocket Monsters”. The famous game Pokémon Go was inspired by this series. Collecting trading cards with Pokémon characters seemed to be cool back then. When Ash grows up to be a man, he will surely be pairing up with Serena, or atleast we want them to.
Doraemon
We have occasionally seen what the other characters of this show would look like in the future as grown-ups, but we never saw Doraemon as such. We all know that practically growing up of Doraemon is impossible since he is a robot and already from the future. But since his life activities relate much to a normal human, we wonder what Doraemon would look like if he ever had a chance to grow up in further future.
Shinchan
Shinchan, the not so innocent boy had gained a lot of fans initially. But the series had enough of non-child friendly content that would cause inappropriate influence. Hence, the series was banned for a while and later re-telecasted on demand of its fans, with heavily edited clips of each episode.
Ben 10
Ben and Gwen were the perfect siblings we’ve always looked up to. They resided with Grandfather Max. Ben and Gwen were first seen traveling with their Grandfather in a caravan for a road trip. This is where Ben perceived a watch-styled device, the Omnitrix that contained the DNA of 10 different aliens which helped him change into one when needed.
Ed, Edd N Eddy
Remember watching Ed, Edd and Eddy before going to bed at the end of the day? We all did. These three characters were the naughtiest and widely differed in their personalities. The trio together tried to earn money for some jawbreakers but somehow always failed. Now if they grow up, we hope they’d become wise and stop making mischiefs.
The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy
Mandy and Billy were best friends. Billy was a brainless little boy while in contrast, Mandy was an extremely intelligent girl who is never seen smiling. Billy and Mandy met Grim Reaper and later became friends with him. We expect Billy will take lessons from Mandy and become a smart man when he grows up.
Cartoon will always remain evergreen in our souls, whatever our age is or whatever generation we might belong to. But now with growing internet accessibility and availability, children are more leaned towards web series than TV anime series and the crave for cartoons has almost gone.
